Hi friends. My blog is currently on hiatus… but may return if inspiration strikes.
Stay tuned, and explore our past adventures below.
Pit Stop: California
An assortment of photos from our time in California en route to Switzerland.
Bidding Los Olivos Farewell
As we empty our blue-paint peeling casita of furniture, artwork, clutter and knickknacks, I’m struck by how much this now cavernous tile-floored space still feels homey. Even in its emptiness, I feel a sense of safety and comfort within the four walls that have, for these last three years, been ours.
Bell’s, Los Alamos
When we walked into a table with menus titled “bon voyage Shona + Freddy”, I felt seen + celebrated in the most delicious way. And we hadn’t event tasted anything yet.
Santa Barbara + Rt. 154
Lush greenery, Spanish mission-style architecture, beautiful colorful tiles that line buildings and pathways, kind humans and some of the best food California has to offer. Then, take the pass — a historic stagecoach road with adventures and stories of its own — up and over the mountains into the bountiful Santa Ynez Valley.
Buellton + Solvang, CA
A blink-and-you-miss-it bakery, honor-system farmstand and (of course) delightful restaurants make these two rustic ranch towns must-visits in the Santa Ynez Valley.
Los Alamos, CA
LA style meets ranch vibes and the slow and leisurely pace of the Central Coast in Los Alamos, California
Los Olivos, CA
With barely more than 2 cross-streets, this picturesque stagecoach stop features an abundance of wine tasting rooms, a few delightful restaurants and two grassy picnic areas.
Ballard + Santa Ynez, CA
A blink-and-you-miss-it bakery, honor-system farmstand and (of course) delightful restaurants make these two rustic ranch towns must-visits in the Santa Ynez Valley.
its raining cats + dogs
I can hear the boys next door drinking coffee on their porch, and the bells from one of the old town churches mean it’s time to get up. Let the fight for hot shower water begin…
sunglasses + wishing wells
Stradun is blinding today. The marble main street and gleaming castle walls intensify the sunshine, making sunglasses a staple of every old town walk.
Санкт-Петербург
Санкт-Петербург is learning and practicing the words "зеленый чай, пожалуйста" (green tea, please) during each cafe and restaurant visit. Санкт-Петербург is…
The City + the Night
The present and past fight for space in the packed city streets, a war which spills blood in the form of ruined views and chronological incongruence.
