Zurich | an urban escapade

I had the distinct delight of enjoying a glorious urban escapade to Zurich, coordinated with much forethought and care by my colleague Ben. Having been to Zurich recently, he curated a tour of Zurich’s cafes, wine bars, restaurants and shops with my taste in mind (lucky me!). Though we were there for work, the memories that will linger from our 2-night trip are mostly of warm food, hot coffee, and the golden colors of fall.

A few spots of note:

Cafe Culture
MAME — I don’t think we ever actually got coffee here, but we admired it from the window everytime we walked by
Bean Bank Coffee — our first cup right off the train, so good!
Auer & co. — their co-working space at Impact Hub kept us cozy for an email-heaving morning, plus a reasonably good matcha
Miro Manufactura — another afternoon work spot, this one seemed frequented by hip designers sipping cappuccinos and cold brews
John Baker — pastries, coffees, and a line that stretched far out the door for everyone’s daily bread

Food + Cocktails
BANK — an easy spot for a quick lunch, some afternoon computer work and, though we didn’t try any, a pretty tasty-looking cocktail bar menu
Bar Am Wasser — “grown up” cocktails from around the world
Le Cuisine — we were delighted to stumble into this restaurant, which had opened its doors just two days prior, and enjoyed ridiculously amazing handmade dumplings and chinese noodle soup bowls
169 West — the most special, simple, perfect wine bar
Gelateria di Berna — specifically, the mulled wine window
Raygrodski — some pretty fantastic cocktails. my favorite? a seasonal bourbon, bergamot + blackberry blend
Grazie — perfect for a quick pizza slice, some fried seafood, and discovering I really enjoy amaretto sours
Bridge — upscale grocery store (featuring Kimchi!!) with pop-up restaurants located inside the spacious building. We had reasonably good ramen and pretty good tacos here at various points while needing a quick bite.

Also! An abundance of photos from our cityscape exploration below for your viewing pleasure. We were lucky to catch fall colors in some pretty beautiful evening light. Though we spent most of our time in the “new” town of Zurich, we took a leisurely early evening walk through part of the old city and around the lake. Lots of beauty!

Thanks for following along, as always!

Love from Leysin,
