Ospedaletti, Bordighera + San Remo

At the very last minute — and after very recently recovering from COVID — we hopping in the car for a trip to the sea. Noted as “Obi’s vacation” this trip focused predominantly on getting Obi down to the Mediterranean for some sea-swimming, his very favorite activity in the whole wide world. He got extra lucky that the part of the Italian coastline we stayed in (the very last stretch of Italy before reaching the French border) is home to many a stray cat, whom he friend-stalked during the entirety of our visit.

We found the most charming airbnb just a few minutes up the hill from the beach, and were delighted by the generous hospitality of our airbnb-host who treated us like her very own grandchildren right from the get-go. She adored Obi and ensured we knew he was welcome to explore the entirety of the property, brought us baked treats, fresh oranges to turn into juice, homemade orange marmalade, and provided the best dog-friendly suggestions for where to adventure to in the nearby area.

Though the winds were fierce our first two days, we were delighted by warm, sunny weather and blue skies for the entirety of our stay, which made for great days spent out exploring, letting Obi swim in the white-capped waves, sun-basking in the front room of the airbnb while working and reading, and getting a sense of all this little section of Italy has to offer.

Speaking of… the food! Goodness, Italian food really is the best. Even when we went to go spend time over on the French side of the border, we always came back to these small Italian coastal villages for dinner. We were lucky to find restaurants with small or pre-fixe menus that gave incredible tastes of the local cuisine, namely, lots of fresh fish! Not only that, we found a restaurant that doubles as a bookstore, which is truly my dream come true. So good.

Restaurants: Ipazia (bookstore); Come a Casa; Osteria Magiargé
