Rocchetta Nervina

At the behest of our airbnb host, we abandoned the treacherously windy coastline for a journey into the interior. Following her instructions, we wound up a windy mountain road — not all that different from the roads we used to drive in the mountains outside Los Olivos, though with many more castle fortresses dotting the hillsides — towards Rocchetta Nervina in the promise of a beautiful canyon stream for dog swimming.

Little did we expect to also find a rock-built down that completely took our breath away. Never before have I walked through so many small nooks and crannies in a town, feeling endlessly in maze of ancient homes, shops, and caverns. What a feeling of walking through history, hearing whispers of stories winding their way around the stone steps and across ancient, ivy-laden archways. What a place!
