We celebrated Freddy’s birthday with a massive downhill hike in Grindelwald, just outside of Interlaken. After taking a cable car up quite a ways with Obi and our friend Eric and his pup, Snow, we meandered across the hillside a good long ways — passing many a stream for Obi and Snow to play in — before enjoying a late potato-and-cheese-filled lunch at a hut restaurant atop the mountain. From there, we walked nearly 12km down the hill back towards town, careering down in the shadow of intimidating mountaintops and meandering through old and new chalets. I was delighted to find many an honor system cheese stand and even a spot to pick up some new calendula salve for my eczema. Obi and I were pretty wrecked and in for some snuggles by the time we made it back to the airbnb for birthday Indian food!
