Interlaken | a first venture

We had the delightful opportunity to take a work week from Interlaken, and took full advantage of the beautiful canals, coffee shops, and vistas. Obi, lucky duck that he is, got to come with for the adventure, so we all set off from home together via train, bags packed to the brim. Took Obi a few hundred meters to remember how to walk with a loaded backpack of his own, but he figured it out eventually and off we went to catch our many trains!

Interlaken itself is a magical spot situated (as it is aptly named) between two lakes and threaded with various streams and canals. Some of which, Obi discovered one brisk morning, run really rather quickly and can be quite hard to swim in given the currents!

We explored the town through a variety of walks, mostly between coffee shops as we hopped from work place to work place, trying different (mostly decaf) cappuccinos, and testing out the variety of chai and matcha lattes as they appeared on various menus.

Velo Cafe and the cafe at the bottom of the Aarburg hotel were our two favorites by far, and we were pleasantly surprised by the Korean BBQ and Indian food options at a few of the local (our first reasonably spicy meals in a long time, yum!).

Of course, the trip had to come to an end as do all good things, but not before we managed quick excursions off to Lauterbrunnen (home of the famous waterfall) and Grindelwald (where we celebrated Freddy’s birthday with a longer-than-expected-hike).

All in all, a lovely adventure!

Love from Interlaken,
