Lausanne + Pottery Class

I owed Freddy a rather massive “thank you” for letting me bail on the new faculty Ikea escapade in favor of a spontaneous girls’ trip to Lausanne for a beginners pottery class. As I hopped on the train with friends to explore a new city, Freddy schlepped to Ikea on the bus to pick up a much-needed wardrobe for our apartment (we’ve been hanging all our clothes on a few spare coat hooks on the back of our bedroom door the last two weeks).

Leysin -> Lausanne | not too much further around the lake by train than Montreux or Vevey, Lausanne is our nearest “city” with great shops, weekend markets and a beautiful cobbled downtown area.

Klay It Pottery Studio | a delightful studio space in the middle of a Lausanne neighborhood, this intimate pottery class was the absolute best way to spend Saturday morning. None of us had had any real experience on the wheel, so we took our time familiarizing ourselves with novel techniques, enjoying the meditative (if challenging) process and tremendously appreciating the gentle guidance of our instructor. We get to pick up our fired + glazed bowls in two weeks!

Un Po Di Piu | at the recommendation of one of the others in our pottery class, we meandered down to this delightfully eclectic and tremendously delicious italian restaurant for lunch. From the cocktails to the homemade pasta to the colorful design elements, it was all around a great spot to spend the early afternoon before catching the train home.

Love from Leysin,
Shona

p.s. for those of you concerned about Freddy’s well-being all alone on a 4-hour stint at Ikea (he quickly grabbed the things we needed and waited patiently for the rest of the group to finish extracting themselves from the furniture maze), please know he is still suffering slightly but we expect a full recovery. His sacrifice meant we could finally put all our clothes away and get our apartment into a semblance of tidiness. He may never venture into an Ikea again, but here’s hoping we’re all done with shopping for the moment!
