Home on the Mountain

As September faded into October, Freddy continued to find his Swiss mountain rhythm — sneaking in a lot more time for midday alpine adventures with Obi — while I found myself more than a tad homesick for the golden Los Olivos hillsides. Still, we’ve been finding new and exciting ways to get out and about in this small village we now call home. Dinner invites to new friends’ lovely abodes, the occasional yoga class, infrequent but delightful work from home (aka, work from outside!) days, time on the couch with an increasingly snuggly Obi, and plenty of hikes up and around the mountain.

Hard to believe it’s already October and that we’re into month 3 of living here (especially considering the bank still hasn’t finalize our bank account so we’re in a cash-only financial limbo… super fun!). The few non-coniferous trees are beginning to turn orange and red, and we’re anticipating a few more weeks till the arrival of our first snowfall. The air is crisper, and Freddy has been delighting in the “perfect” weather this past week.

We’ve been thinking more and more about purchasing a car, and lamenting our lack of stick-shift driving knowledge. Anyone want to come visit and teach us to drive? Freddy has discovered a truly spectacular beer store down the mountain that’s tricky to get to by public transportation, increasing the urge to make a swift vehicular decision. Luckily, we have plenty of beverage-loving friends to hitch rides with in the meantime!

Love from Leysin,
sbmc
