Saturday in Vevey
After wrapping a week full of faculty orientation and increasingly busy work schedules, we spent Saturday escaping down the mountain to enjoy Vevey’s lovely weather and farmers market down by the lakeside.
After leaving the farmer’s market with an abundance of mushrooms, some strawberries, zucchini and a bunch of green onions (I’ve been surprised that green onions are hard to come by around here!), and grabbing brunch from Brew, we meandered along the promenade to find a grassy spot from which to take a dip. The water is brisk but incredibly refreshing in the heat of the afternoon!
Obi is truly in his element along the lakeshore. He could swim for sticks for hours with intermittent rolling escapades in the lush green grass. The leash laws are relaxed enough around here that he’s free to meander from our picnic blanket to the water and back (as long as we have an eye on him), though most of the time he’ll just sit lakeside waiting for us to throw something for him to fetch.
While the rest of us sun-sleepy-heads headed back home on the afternoon train, Freddy hopped off at a stop at the bottom of our mountain and ran all the way back home, about 8 miles and nearly 3500ft of elevation gain.
Hoping that this Saturday adventure will become part of our regular repertoire of warm weather weekend activities, and extra grateful to have fresh produce filling out kitchen counter for the week ahead.
Love from Leysin,
Shona
