A Florentine Day

Ah yes, Florence! Though this city deserved much more than the day-trip we devoted to it, we did all we could to see all the best of Florence on the day after Christmas. Starting with coffee and pastry at La Menagerie (read more about all our food from the trip), we then made our way to see the David as all first-time-Florence-goers evidently must. I found myself perhaps even more interested in the history and mythology of the piece than the sculpture itself, though it was certainly beautiful!

After the David, we made our way to a small lunch at Enoteca Bellini, a small wine bar near the Duomo, which we explored after a few glasses of wine and crostini toasts. Despite the dreary weather, we were able to get a reasonably good view of the valley from the top of the Duomo, and enjoyed searching for Freddy and the dogs in the meandering pedestrian crowds below.

There’s something extra spectacular about getting to take your dog (and your friends’ dog) with you to see some of the most famous sites in Europe. We’ve been so pleased by how dog friendly everything here in Europe is, and Italy was no exception. Obi could come with us into every restaurant, cafe, and shop we wanted; only the museums (understandably) weren’t open to four-legged friends. An extra shout-out to Obi, who is a total trooper in hectic city adventure days.
