Edinburgh

Quite frankly, I was pretty devastated when Freddy and I had to last-minute cancel our much-anticipated trip to Morocco due to a myriad of COVID-related reasons. Always the one to know me even better than I know myself, he knew I needed a bit of cozy-home time and suggested I go spent time with family-friends in Scotland as a balm to soothe my sadness.

So, I sent a “can I come visit you… tomorrow?” message to some of my very favorite people, booked a flight and hopped over to Edinburgh for a long-weekend. Though I’d been to Edinburgh a few times as a child, this was my first time back in recent memory, which meant it felt simultaneously like a comfortable, familiar place to be and was a truly wonderful area to explore.

So, I cozied up on the couch with loved ones, drank oodles of tea, meandered around and through Edinburgh, basked in the beautiful spring weather, smelled the flowers (literally), ate delicious food, laughed a lot with old friends, and felt the coastal waters soothe me to my very bones. There’s something about the british isles that always feels so good in my body; whenever I’m there, I feel a sense of homecoming that I’ve yet to experience anywhere else. Perhaps it’s the old stone walls, the babbling brooks, the moss-covered trees, being called “dearie” in the cafes, meandering museums that tell my ancestor’s stories, or simply spending time with people who have known me my whole life. Whatever it is, I can’t wait to go back for more.

Love from Leysin,
